Our Mission…effective economic analyses
The newest frontiers in city planning are not just about great visuals and the crunching of big data, or even greater attention to diverse constituencies, opinions and perceptions – important as these advances in the practice have been. Today, more than ever, our clients need us to listen to their issues and make them the center of our analyses. They need us to communicate the results of those analyses clearly and in ways that are useful to them. They need well-reasoned professional judgment. Each assignment poses a unique challenge worthy of fresh ideas tempered by the experience from projects carefully selected for their relevancy. We think that effective economic planning leads to long term aspirations that can survive changing social, economic and environmental circumstances. At the same time, if some initiatives are practical enough to be realized soon, they will reinforce support for the longer- term vision. We strive to help our clients achieve both.
How We Work
We listen to our clients, take the pulse of the community, and help sharpen goals and objectives for economic development. Then we dig into the problem, crunching the best available and most appropriate social and economic data with the best analytic tools we know. We talk to people in the community who know more than we do, because we know the numbers alone are not the whole story.
Our areas of expertise are economic development, transportation, and real estate economics, plus social and economic impact assessments for a wide variety of public and private projects and programs. Our specialty practice area in waterfront planning and economics includes an unmatched breadth and depth of project experience.
Since 1991 FXM has been helping clients:
- Revitalize and expand the economies of downtowns, neighborhoods, and communities;
- Optimize the effects of major transportation and other infrastructure projects on household income, jobs, business sales, and taxes; and
- Capture market demand that can assure successful real estate rehabilitation and new development projects.
Our staff includes five professionals who each have over 30 years of experience. We work cooperatively on each assignment and subscribe to a strict peer review process. We understand that our work is useful only if it can be communicated clearly with concise text and understandable graphics.
FXM Associates’ work has been recognized with a dozen international, national, and state-level awards for excellence by the American Planning Association (APA), the Congress for the New Urbanism, the Waterfront Center, and others.
As you will see in the project examples on this website, FXM has enjoyed an extraordinary record of influence in helping its clients achieve their objectives. We hope you will review projects of interest and contact us if we can help you better understand market opportunities, assess project and program-related economic and fiscal effects, and achieve your economic and real estate development objectives.
